No Place Like Home

In the SJ Update mailbag today, it’s Jim and Minnie Knych with this note to share with you…
It is very satisfying to know that, in good times or bad times, easy times or hard times, there is no place we would rather be than Friday Harbor.
For the past eighteen years, we have shared Thanksgiving with volunteers, supporters and diners. Some of the participants come every year, some came for the first time this year. We’ve had the opportunity to gather with friends, neighbors and new acquaintances. The number has grown to five hundred.
It is an opportunity to gather and just share without making speeches or espousing a cause. We are truly blessed.
Thank you Friday Harbor!
Jim and Minnie Knych

I have only gone to the community Thanksgiving dinner maybe 3 times over I am sure over 20 years! Having just moved, not able to cook and exhausted! I went to the dinner this year to meet friends. It was the BEST ever, fantastic in sooo many ways!! Here here to the Mullis Center space; it felt open, full, lively, light and room for so many more volunteers it seemed, so the work load hopefully was not carried by just those regulars who are there every year. I felt so welcome, by the friendly greeters at the front door to the servers and those that came by the tables to offer more of anything and everything. Food was fantastic, HOW DO THEY DO IT? all that gravy and still taste homemade, many kinds of pies and each item so delicious. It was a treat, as well as seeing so many familiar faces and having time to visit. thank you thank you Minnie and Jim and everyone who so selflessly makes sure this happens. You know you created a great thing when the numbers are that great!! happy you had lots of help! and even they were having fun, I could see it. Grateful grateful! Pam Fry
