Women’s March Friday Harbor
Posted January 21, 2017 at 4:28 pm by Tim Dustrude
There was a very large turnout for the Women’s March in Friday Harbor today. Men, women, children, babies and dogs marched in support of the Women’s March on Washington D.C. and hundreds of other similar marches across the country and around the world.
Estimates put the number of participants at 1,500 to 1,800 hundred. Pretty good for a small island with a population of 6,894! The march ended at the middle school commons where there was not enough room to accommodate all the people so many were left standing outside, trying to hear the speakers within.

It was a great march and event today. Thanks to everyone who showed up! Looking forward to being with you all as we continue to push back and create the positive change we know is needed in our country and our world. It was a great day. Get some rest, and let’s keep going!
Very empowering! Trump said, “January 20th, 2017 will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again”. Ironically the “president” might be closer to the truth than he meant to be — but he got the date slightly wrong. It was the 21st of January 2017.
Womanity Rising!
Thanks so much Tim, and all who marched in beautiful solidarity in Friday Harbor, and all who contributed photos. I was not on-island Saturday, so it’s really great to see these pictures. I’m extremely proud of islanders for showing up, being part of a huge network of caring women, men, and children, and proud of our numbers too!
Thanks for documenting this awe-inspiring day, Tim! “Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty.” – Wendell Phillips, Abolitionist, 1852
