Letter from Bill Williams

Public Hospital District Commissioner Bill Williams shares this letter…
Earlier this week I forwarded a draft resolution to the commissioners of the San Juan County Public Hospital District #1. If approved, the resolution would authorize the drafting of a contract with Mount Baker Planned Parenthood for sexual health and reproductive health services. The issue will be placed on the agenda of the February 22 regular Public Hospital District meeting.
Each commissioner will be given the opportunity to speak for or against the resolution and a vote by the commissioners will be taken. If a decision is made to draft a contract, the contract would be placed before the Board for approval at a subsequent regular Board meeting.
Bill Williams, MHA
Public Hospital District Commissioner
San Juan County Public Hospital District #1

I am in total support of this resolution brought forward by Bill Williams. If passed, services can be provided to those needing, but not being able to afford or access them. It is vitally important to understand the scope of these services. To name just a few: parent/teen relationships; sexting and the Internet; dating relationships; cancer screening and birth control, STDs, and pregnancy. It is equally important to know that Planned Parenthood performs less than 3% abortions yearly (dependent on location). It seems that the detractors of Planned Parenthood focus only on this aspect ignoring the other vital services that are provided, and could be for our community.
I, too, am in strong support of this resolution. This would help to fill the current void in services offered by Peace Health. I urge each of the commissioners to vote yes for this resolution that would meet many of the needs of islanders that are currently absent.
