Public Hospital District to Explore Possible PP Contract
Posted February 22, 2017 at 9:46 pm by Tim Dustrude
The public hospital district board voted 3-2 Wednesday night to explore the possibility of contracting with Planned Parenthood for reproductive health services not offered by Peace Island Medical Center, at a possible cost of up to $50,000 a year.
In the resolution Monica Harrington and Barbara Sharp were named as a subcommittee to talk with local Planned Parenthood representatives and report back to the board.
A standing-room-only crowd overflowed the meeting room, and two other rooms with closed-circuit TV were pressed into service. The large crowd was for the most part quiet and respectful through the long meeting, and 14 citizens lined up at the end to give their comments.
A contentious discussion over the resolution lasted an hour, and other hospital district business took over an hour before the discussion even started.
Harrington and Sharp and board chair Bill Williams voted for the resolution; Mark Schwinge and Michael Edwards voted against it.

Planned Parenthood is AMAZING!!! Let’s GET IT DONE!! AMEN!
This is the perfect solution to a sticky situation! It respects the Catholic hospital’s religious mission while appropriately funneling secular-based support to necessary and local reproductive health access. Planned Parenthood is perfect.
The hospital might even see the benefit to itself: relief of community pressure on the related controversial issues, freeing up time and energy. This is a great chance for both sides to move ahead!
Giving our local district dollars to expand Planned Parenthood here is a huge fiduciary mistake.Planned Parenthood has assets over $300 million and eleven directors making 6 figure incomes. They don’t need our local money for expansion here. Women’s reproductive needs except for abortion which can’t be done safely here are met by PIMC or their doctors leasing space. Therefore giving $50,000 to the commissioner’s political allies over real needs of our community is a misuse of funds. Follow the money trail. Local Democrat chair’s daughter is an abortion surgeon. Local Democrats and Planned Parenthood become successful in plugging in 3 hospital district commissioners who will funnel money to PP.The local Democrats have infiltrated and set up our community to take district funds away from real needs of our community like hospice, senior care, nutritional support, paramedical needs, home care and others.Wake up Democrats and see how you have been manipulated.Let’s not forget the $50,000 is coming from a fund that was intended to help locals with their hospital bills.Tell the commissioners to spend our money on real needs.
