As part of “History Lives Here” month, during the month of May and in preparation for the summer visitor season, the San Juan Historical Society and Museum will have two Open Houses to welcome the community and interested visitors to this popular attraction in Friday Harbor.
The Museum’s eight buildings and grounds will be open free to the public on Saturday May 5 and Saturday May 12, from 11 am to 2 pm. Bring a picnic lunch to share with your family and friends on our inviting grounds, take your time visiting the buildings and discover some island history along the way. Learn about a few of the exciting plans in the works for your Island Historical Museum.
The museum will be opening for summer self-guided tours beginning May 17th, from 10 am – 2 pm, Tuesdays through Saturday, through September. Admission is $8 per adult person, $5 student/youth (6-17) under 6 and over 100 free and families (limit 4) $20. Guided tours for 4 or more people may be arranged; this tour will be 1.5 hours, led by a staff member or volunteer well versed in island history and must be reserved in advance.
San Juan Historical Society and Museum always welcomes volunteers, whether they are full-time or part-time residents. There are a variety of ongoing projects that are challenging, interesting, and give volunteers the opportunity to make a difference in the community. Contact us at 360-378-3919 or [email protected].
