Island Senior is a regular column on the SJ Update written by Peggy Sue McRae…
There is a new face at the Mullis Center. Anna Coffelt-Kuetzing was hired in May to be the Mullis Center’s new facilitiy manager. Anna, who hails from a pioneer island family, grew up on Lopez and has called San Juan Island her home for sixteen years. Her husband Karl is the Operations Director for San Juan Island EMS, and a Land Surveyor. Her son Conner is going to film school in Seattle.
As facility manager, Anna will be scheduling events. She’s who you will call (at 360-378-9102) to learn about availability and rental rates at the Center. She will oversee daily operations, order supplies, and coordinate with the board’s maintenance committee to make sure the building and grounds are well looked after.
Anna will also be reaching out to new members. The benefits of membership are many but this one was new to me: You can become a card-carrying member of the Mullis Center at 60 and the Palace Theatre will honor that card giving you the senior discount where regularly you would have to be 65. And of course, there are many more advantages to your annual twenty-dollar membership… but that is another article for another day.
Anna will be overseeing the Mullis Center’s new coupon book fundraiser and looking to bring in new volunteers. Right now an egg chef and host are badly needed for the monthly Pancake Breakfast, one of the center’s most popular fundraisers.
When not busy keeping the Mullis Center ship shape Anna might be found beach combing. She creates mixed media artwork combining elements from nature including shells and leaves and she also creates orgami. At her new job Anna looks forward to meeting new people and helping other people make new connections.
