April is Poetry Month

In our continuing April is Poetry Month series, the San Juan Update is sharing poems from local poets every Friday this month. Today is the 4th and final Friday and we have “Red Dirt”, by Sherry Smith Bell:

Red Dirt

Family Farm – an etching by Sherry Smith Bell

Color of Earths’ mantle

Wears a cape

Of earthen flow

Dust storms cover the land,

Blowing, blowing,

Top soil wears thin

Crops do not flourish

Malnourished land

Whirl-a –gigs of wind

Rain, washing, running through gullies

A child puts on boots to play.
