Island Senior: Spring Stirrings at the Mullis Center

Spring is here and along with the rain, sunshine, and tulips, indoor activities are cautiously returning to the Mullis Center. While the Mullis Center is not quite ready to resume community lunches, we are pleased to invite you to join us as in-person activities begin to open up.

The Mullis Center recommends that activity attendees be vaccinated and boosted. At this moment masking requirements remain in place but will be subject to change. We serve a vulnerable population and continue to lean towards caution.

Besides ongoing services like foot care, mobility equipment loans, online yoga and balance classes, and our online/offline book club (the book club has experimented with partial in person, partial Zoom meetings), the Mullis Center’s painting and quilting groups will now be meeting again in person.

The Mullis Center Painting Group will meet weekly from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays. Masks are required. The Mullis Center Quilting Group will meet weekly from 3 to 4:30 pm on Wednesdays. Masks will be required inside. (Our hearty quilters have been known to meet outdoors.)

After a long pandemic our Afternoon Socials on Mondays and Wednesdays between 1 and 3 pm may be just the ticket for easing back into society. You are encouraged to bring a friend to chat, work on craft projects, work on puzzles, and play games. Backgammon, chess, cribbage, and Jenga are available or bring your own game if you wish. On April 2, Peace Island Volunteers will be at the Mullis Center selling their stupendous Easter Baskets from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Plan to come early; those baskets go fast! Bring your camera. Rumor has it the Easter Bunny may make an appearance.

To keep up with San Juan Island’s Garden Club please check their website. The Garden Club is not specifically a Mullis Center group but will be meeting in the Mullis Center Craft Room at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5. The guest speaker will be Lori Ann David of Aurora Farms.

Finally, Friday Bingo is back! (That’s winner Judy McRae pictured above.) Join us Friday, April 8 at 1 p.m. for a planning meeting if you would like to help coordinate and/or volunteer for monthly bingo. Then come and play bingo on Friday, April 22.
