Victoria Compton is particularly suited to be a commissioner of the Port of Friday Harbor.

Port districts are designed by law to be the economic drivers in their communities. And here, Victoria, director of the San Juan Economic Development Council for the past eleven years, excels. I speak from personal experience working with her for the last five of those years on broadening and enriching our economy (her last year and a half have been spent saving it).

Economic development is only part of the job. It’s steering it that takes skill; the deep knowledge of how economies, particularly ours, work or don’t work. Victoria has the knowledge, skills, and energy to help to steer us to a more human-based opportunity-driven economy.
