Soroptimists Give $5,000 to Community Service Organizations

Soroptimists International of Friday Harbor started off their fiscal year by providing $5,000 in additional funding to two vital community organizations. The club gave 2,500 each to Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Services of San Juan County (DVSAS) and the Family Resource Center in Friday Harbor. Downriggers Fire Determined To Be Accidental

The Port of Friday Harbor and San Juan Island Fire Rescue have determined that the recent fire at 10 Front Street was not an intentionally set fire. A team of investigators determined that the cause was an electrical problem within a wall near the kitchen area. The Fire Department reports that there were no injuries. Continue Reading
Transportation Voucher Program Launches Phase Two

San Juan County is re-launching its popular Transportation Voucher Program in September and will be operating through June of 2015. While the first round of the Transportation Voucher Program closed this past June, the program is now accepting applications again. Florence was surrounded by family and friends when she lost her courageous battle with pneumonia at the Life Care Center of the San Juan’s. Betty, as her friends and family called her, was a 23 year resident of Friday Harbor, Washington. Harlan Dean Anderson, age 64, peacefully passed away at the Life Care Center in Friday Harbor on August 27th, 2013, after a fifteen year battle with Parkinson’s disease. On April 17th, 1949 in Hawley, Minnesota, Harlan was born to Russell and Lila Anderson. Harlan finished high school and moved to Florida to attend business school. Continue Reading
