Letter to the editor: Joshua Corsa

As the EMS Medical Program Director for San Juan County, I want to publicly declare my support for the San Juan Public Hospital District #1 EMS levy.

When the Fire/EMS merger was proposed, I was, as were both the Fire District & PHD boards of commissioners, in favor of integration. I spoke in favor of the measure because it was an action supported by myself and both departments. Unfortunately, that measure failed, and the departments will continue to operate separately. Coincidentally, the EMS levy is now up for renewal, as it is every six years.

I support the San Juan Public Hospital District #1 EMS Levy just as I support all of San Juan County’s EMS agencies. Intra-department division and antipathy accomplish nothing except hurt our agencies and our patients. We all benefit when our emergency services collaborate and help each other improve. We should focus our energy on those goals for the good of our departments and the citizens we serve.
