Music on the Lawn was espe­cial­ly sweet his week, as Island Rec cel­e­brat­ed its 25th anniver­sary with a cake con­test — here’s more from Direc­tor Sal­ly Thomsen:

Cake Bak­ing and Cake Dec­o­rat­ing Con­test win­ners’ announced! 

Island Rec cel­e­brat­ed its 25th anniver­sary of Peo­ple, Parks and Pro­gram at its free sum­mer con­cert series, Music on the Lawn on Wednes­day July 29.  Despite the record break­ing hot tem­per­a­tures, over 250 peo­ple attend­ed the con­cert and 11 cakes were entered in the Bak­ing and Dec­o­rat­ing Contests.

There was plenty of cake...even people who came to Music on the Lawn for the last song got a bite!

Judg­ing the con­tests were Patrick Hon­ey­well, Bak­ery San Juan; Felic­i­ty Milne, Cakes by Felic­i­ta­tions and Pam Stew­art and Lucy Plumb-Reyes of Café Deme­ter. 1st place win­ners receive Cake Bak­ing and Dec­o­rat­ing Class­es from these pro­fes­sion­al bak­ers. After the judg­ing, the cakes were cut and enjoyed by those attend­ing Music on the Lawn!

The win­ners were:
Adult Divi­sion Cake Baking 
1st Place: Lori Stokes, 2nd Place: Susan Stern­er, 3rd Place: Eileen Drath

Adult Divi­sion Cake Decorating
1st Place: Becky Volk,  2nd Place: Cin­da Pierce

Youth Divi­sion Cake Dec­o­rat­ing contest 
1st Place: Mady Schroed­er, 2nd Place: Camp Eagle Rock, 3rd place: Saman­tha Pills­bury and Cady Wilson.
