Music on the Lawn was especially sweet his week, as Island Rec celebrated its 25th anniversary with a cake contest – here’s more from Director Sally Thomsen:

Cake Baking and Cake Decorating Contest winners’ announced!

Island Rec celebrated its 25th anniversary of People, Parks and Program at its free summer concert series, Music on the Lawn on Wednesday July 29.  Despite the record breaking hot temperatures, over 250 people attended the concert and 11 cakes were entered in the Baking and Decorating Contests.

There was plenty of cake...even people who came to Music on the Lawn for the last song got a bite!

Judging the contests were Patrick Honeywell, Bakery San Juan; Felicity Milne, Cakes by Felicitations and Pam Stewart and Lucy Plumb-Reyes of Café Demeter. 1st place winners receive Cake Baking and Decorating Classes from these professional bakers. After the judging, the cakes were cut and enjoyed by those attending Music on the Lawn!

The winners were:
Adult Division Cake Baking
1st Place: Lori Stokes, 2nd Place: Susan Sterner, 3rd Place: Eileen Drath

Adult Division Cake Decorating
1st Place: Becky Volk,  2nd Place: Cinda Pierce

Youth Division Cake Decorating contest
1st Place: Mady Schroeder, 2nd Place: Camp Eagle Rock, 3rd place: Samantha Pillsbury and Cady Wilson.
