Dropping by for lunch...

Dropping by for lunch...

Lots of folks drop by the island for lunch…today we had these huge helicopters drop out of the sky (they leave a pretty good shadow, and when they fly over your head, you definitely notice them).

So I called Dave Ryan, who’s the airport manager…he said the ‘copters are Chinook C-47s. The crew called & asked for clearance to land because they wanted to eat lunch here. They’re running training exercises out of Fort Lewis & over Whidbey Island. Dave said they just came back from a year in Iraq & that they’re glad to be home.

  1. When I heard these big guys overhead and saw them landing at the airport, I hopped in my car to see what it was all about. When I saw you there at the side of the road, I thought, “Oh, OK, now I can just go back to the office and punch up San Juan Update in about 20 minutes and find out. Sure ‘nough, there you were. Thanks for keep us all informed, Ian.

  3. Ian,

To my surprise I was driving back from lunch when I saw these coming my way. I was totally impressed! They look like flying motorhomes. WOW!

  4. I just came back from watching the departure of those big flying monsters, and I overheard one guy in the Brown’s parking lot say to another, “I guess they heard about Market Chef.”
