Passing: Johanna ‘Josie’ Picinich

Just heard that Dave’s mom passed away, with services this weekend…our condolences to the family & friends. Here’s more:

Johanna 'Josie' Picinich

Johanna ‘Josie’ Picinich, 82, of Friday Harbor, Washington passed away on Monday, May 2, 2011.

She was born on the island of Susak, Croatia on September 28, 1928 to Jack and Anna (Bussanich) Morin. Josie immigrated to Hoboken, New Jersey when she was two years old. She married John Picinich in 1946 and they later moved to Gig Harbor, WA. In 1951 they moved to West Seattle where Josie resided until 1994 when she moved to Friday Harbor.

Josie was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, adored by her family. She entertained all with her humor, singing, and baking. Josie loved taking care of her family and using her computer to stay in touch with everyone. She enjoyed surfing the internet and shopping. Josie was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1982.

She will be greatly missed by her family; daughter and son-in-law, Joanne and Mike Holmes; sons and daughters-in-law, John and Carol Picinich, Jr., both of Seattle, Dave and Wendy Picinich of Friday Harbor; grandchildren and spouses, Larry Holmes, Julie (Jason) Woodward, Lorrie (Tim) Campbell, Greg (Dawn) Holmes, all of Seattle, Jason (Michelle) Picinich of Spanaway, Jeff (Danielle) Picinich of Port Angeles, Cameron (Tanya) Picinich of Sea Tac, Marc Picinich of Friday Harbor, and Jill (Martin) Whitfield of Las Vegas, NV; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 7, 2011 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church, 4210 SW Genesee Street, in West Seattle followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. and reception. Interment will be held at Holyrood Cemetery in Shoreline, WA at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, May 7, 2011.

Memorials may be made to Josie’s favorite charity, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center. A memorial service will also be held in Friday Harbor at a later date. Arrangements are in the care of Evans Funeral Chapel and Crematory, Inc., Anacortes, WA and the San Juan Islands.
