Here’s an idea from Alan, sharing an idea from our friends at the Community Foundation:

The Ideal Holiday Gift: A Personalized Brick at the PeaceHealth Peace Island Medical Center

Need a new holiday idea that celebrates a special event, remembers a loved one or sends a message? Inscribed bricks and dedicated garden benches at the new PeaceHealth Peace Island Medical Center are now available. The bricks will cover the outdoor plaza adjacent to the main lobby and the garden benches will provide outdoor respites throughout the site. Sample bricks and images of the bench will be on display, and available for purchase, at the Marketplace on Friday December 9 and Saturday December 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and from the San Juan Island Community Foundation throughout the holiday season.

“This is an opportunity for Islanders to celebrate the holidays by creating an enduring family memory,” said Tom Cable, Co-Chair of the Foundation’s Peace Island Medical Center Project. “Each family’s personalized brick or garden bench will be a permanent element of the new medical center. Patients, staff, visitors and Islanders will use the patio and benches while enjoying the beauty of the site.”

The bricks will be deeply engraved, filled and sealed so that the messages will be legible for generations to come. The benches, each with a dedication plaque, will be locally made and will be constructed of island cedar.

For further information about the bricks and garden benches, visit the information table at the Marketplace on Friday December 9 and Saturday December 17, or contact the San Juan Island Community Foundation at info (at) sjicf.org or 378-1001.
