San Juan Island Fire Rescue- Major Emergency Response Team (MERT) held its first meeting on April 25, 2013. There will be another informational meeting held tonight – Tuesday, April 30 at 6:30 PM at the Mullis Street Fire Station for those who could not attend the first one. The MERT program will help disseminate information during a major emergency such as an earthquake. The fire department is looking for volunteers to staff our local fire stations during those times.
