Downriggers Fire

San Juan Island Fire & Rescue was dispatched to a fully involved structure fire at 10 Front Street, a building with several businesses including Downriggers Restaurant at 2:40 a.m. Saturday.
About 25 firefighters continued to fight the fire at 6 a.m. to keep it contained to that building.
Other businesses in that building include Friday Harbor Marine, Friday Harbor Yachts, San Juan Safaris and San Juan Excursions.
The Port will seek other places for those businesses to establish their operations. For instance, the Odyssey, San Juan Excursions whale watch boat, has been moved to a different slip.
Port Director Marilyn O’Connor said the Port of Friday Harbor is evacuating Spring Street Pier, one of four piers, so that booms can be placed to minimize any potential runoff from attacking the fire.
While firefighters continue to fight the blaze, boaters staying in the Port will need to take the stairs above the Port offices to access the Town of Friday Harbor.
The first ferry of the morning made two added stops to pick up firefighters from Orcas and Lopez islands to help fight the fire. The first sailing will be about 30 minutes late as a result. Ferry off-loading will occur on East Street.

A quick correction. The Odyssey is still located at Spring Street Landing in its normal slip. Our office has temporarily moved to the Crystal Seas Kayaking office located at 50 Spring Street(next to Cask and Schooner)and we are running daily trips at 1:30pm.
