Posted April 8, 2014 at 4:33 am by Tim Dustrude
San Juan Community Theatre’s On Book! Readers Theatre series features Lillian Hellman’s 1934 drama, The Children’s Hour, on Monday and Tuesday, April 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the Gubelman Theatre.
Set in an all-girls boarding school run by two women, the plot unfolds as an angry student runs away from the school; and to avoid being sent back, she tells her grandmother that the two headmistresses are having a lesbian affair. The accusation proceeds to destroy the women’s careers, relationships and lives.
The reading is directed by Amanda Smith and features 15 islanders in the acting roles.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. with festival seating. Admission is free.
