San Juan Islands Museum of Art, which opened December 5 in Friday Harbor, surprised its 1000th visitor on Friday with a $200 Charter Membership. Erin Braybrook of Arlington, formerly of San Juan Island, is shown accepting her prize from museum director Charlie Bodenstab.

Benefits included with Braybrook’s $200 Supporting Membership include the opportunity to preview new shows, exclusive invitations to supporting member events, and discounts to IMA’s Art as a Voice speaker series, plus reciprocal privileges to over 600 museums through the North American Reciprocal Museum (NARM) and the new Reciprocal Organization of Associated Museums (ROAM) programs.

Memberships support IMA’s public work to establish on the Islands a non-profit art center that will attract art lovers from around the country, helping strengthen the year-round island economy. IMA offers continued free admission to world class-exhibitions, exceptional exhibition space for local artists and students to showcase their work, an award-winning dedication to art education in the schools, community-friendly programs such as “Art as a Voice” and “Family Art Days”, outstanding artist workshop programs with classes taught by both local and nationally-known artists.

IMA offers a wide range of membership levels, packaged to support your desired level of involvement. An IMA membership also makes a wonderful gift! Each level of membership shows your commitment to the cultural vitality of the San Juans, from full corporate sponsorships to affordable single memberships, and many levels in between.

Collectible charter memberships are available only until the grand opening show, Illuminated: Glass by William Morris 1998-2013, which runs February 14 through May 12.

The current show, Unveiling:The Best of the IMA Artists’ Registry, features 58 local artists in two new exhibition spaces and runs through January 25. IMA is open 11 to 5 Friday through Monday. Admission is free.
