Losar, or Tibetan New Year begins this year on February 8 or 9. In Tibet, Losar is an important holiday and is traditionally celebrated for several weeks. In preparation for the new year Tibetans clean house and at Sakya Kachod Choling Tibetan Buddhist Retreat Center on top of Mt Dallas we have been busy cleaning the shrine room for the new year.

Through most of the year the center is open to the public for Sunday meditation from 1:30 – 2:30 pm. Call 378-4059 or email [skc @ rock island . com] for more information and directions.

This is the year of the Fire Monkey. Expect the unexpected!

  1. Happy Year of the Fire Monkey!
I hope that the folks on the Island can make it up to visit this wonderful place and benefit from its very special energy. During the Losar period it is said that whatever you do is multiplied thousands of times in its effectiveness. So a visit in the next few weeks would be awesome. You have a treasure at your door step.
With best wishes from Down Under
