Islanders will have their first opportunity to meet Elexis Fredy, the new superintendent of San Juan Island National Historical Park at a public reception on February 18 at the San Juan Historical Society, 405 Price St in Friday Harbor. The event will be from 1 to 3 pm and refreshments will be served.

Fredy comes to San Juan Island from Yosemite National Park, where she was serving as the lead manager in the Merced River Plan, a National Park Service (NPS) project to protect and manage the 81 miles of the Merced River corridor within the park.

“Elexis brings strong experience and skills in strategic planning, project management, team building, public involvement, employee development, communications and more” noted NPS Pacific West Region Deputy Director Chip Jenkins in his announcement of Fredy’s acceptance of the position last December.

She and her family, husband Russell and two daughters, will be moving to the island, and are looking forward to joining island life.

The park’s previous superintendent, Lee Taylor, left in the fall of 2015, after nearly three and a half years on San Juan. She is currently the deputy superintendent at Olympic National Park.

  1. Congratulations to Elexis – but an even greater congratulations to San Juan Island NHP for Elexis’ appointment. Our loss in Yosemite is truly your great gain!
