Lauren Cohen, Co-owner San Juan Canvas, LLC and Chamber of Commerce Board President keeps us up to date with the Chamber of Commerce…

As July flies by it looks like we are having our usual crazy, crowded summer on the Island. All of us on the Chamber of Commerce Board and staff hope that all of our businesses are having a successful, prosperous summer so far. We look forward to checking in with our business owners in the fall for feedback on the summer’s business trends.

Events: The 4th of July was a wonderful, festive day with thousands of visitors enjoying an awesome parade and the biggest fireworks show that Friday Harbor has ever had. Thank you to Becki Day, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce, and her staff for all of their hard work on this showcase event. Thanks also go out to Traci Wilson our parade coordinator, Kings Market and The Town of Friday Harbor, our major sponsors and, of course, to all members of our community who so generously made donations large and small. It was a true Island effort.

Quarterly Luncheon: We hope that all of our members can take a quick break from their hectic summer day and join us at noon on Tuesday, July 19 for our quarterly luncheon at Brickworks. It will be catered by Van Go’s Restaurant. The cost is $15. Come by and hear some brief updates, welcome new members, have a great lunch and check in with fellow business owners & managers. We hope to see you all there.

Openings: Three businesses in the soon to be completed, beautiful new Spring Street Landing building have quietly opened on the lower level. San Juan Safaris & Riptide Coffee, Blackfish Whale & Wildlife Tours and San Juan Excursions. All three of these member businesses are welcoming customers in their fantastic new locations. Be sure to stop in to all three to say hello and congratulations.

The Port Commissioners and staff will surely plan a fantastic celebration upon completion of this impressive project. In the meantime, spread the word that these outdoor adventure businesses are back. Let’s all show our support!

New Members: We would like to welcome some new members to the Chamber of Commerce who joined recently. Some new businesses and some familiar. We are happy to have them join in as part of our cohesive community of merchants. Be sure to visit.
