San Juan Island National Historical Park is proud to host Music in the American Wild, August 5, during their Pacific Northwest National Park Tour.

Friday, August 5
10:00 am to 12:00 pm – American Camp Parade Grounds
7:30 pm to 9:00 pm – English Camp Barracks

The setting was perfect—the wide, dry, sun-filled meadow surrounded by white picket fence, woods in the near distance, and a path beyond the fence that curved over a knoll with a couple walking there who slowly vanished over the top to the other side toward the sea. The “new music” on the program consisted of pieces composed in particular outdoor settings, as in National Parks, evoking sounds of birds and animals, moving water, or an unseen nearby road.
    This music made perfect sense in the setting where it was performed. I was thrilled to have been there.
