First, on Friday, May 26 at 7:00 p.m., a modern production of Ibsen’s classic drama, Hedda Gabler, will be screened in the Whittier. Directed by Tony Award-winner Ivo van Hove (A View from the Bridge at the Young Vic Theatre) the play features Ruth Wilson (LutherThe AffairJane Eyre) in the title role in this new version by Patrick Marber (Notes on a ScandalCloser). Then, it’s Teddy Bear time on Saturday…

CATS’ annual Teddy Bear Picnic returns to San Juan Community Theatre on Saturday, May 27.

The FREE event from noon to 2:00 in the patio garden and Gubelman Theatre features face painting, simple craft projects, cookie decorating, refreshments, and, of course, teddy bears!

Island musician Kirk Fuhrmeister will be on hand to provide the entertainment—playing music, singing and telling stories to the young audience and their families.

The refreshments will include grilled cheese sandwiches, fruit, juice and cookies.

Each child also receives a complimentary stuffed bear from CATS (Community Arts Theatre Society) and a book from the Early Learning Consortium and Critical Needs Task Force.

Der Rosenkavalier

Finally, on Sunday, May 28 at 2:00 p.m., R. Strauss’s romantic masterpiece, Der Rosenkavalier, winds up The Met: Live in HD season. It is the Met’s first new production since 1969 of the opera, and stars Renée Fleming in one of her signature roles as the Marschallin, opposite Elīna Garanča in her first North American performances as Octavian, the impulsive young title character.

Tickets for the Friday and Sunday events are $20 for adults, $18 for SJCT members and $10 for student reserved.   Due to a financial agreement with the Met, no SJCT coupons are accepted for these productions. Tickets are available on-line at www.sjctheatre.org or at the SJCT Box Office: 378-3210.
