Brendan Cowan, Director of the Department of Emergency Management shares this weather alert…

The National Weather Service is forecasting high westerly winds for later on Tuesday in the eastern parts of the Strait of Juan de Fuca. This could mean gusts of up to 50mph in some island locations later on Tuesday afternoon and evening.

This much wind is normal in the winter, but is unusual for this time of year, especially given our recent stretch of summer like weather. Island residents and visitors, especially those out on the water, should keep an eye on the forecast and conditions on Tuesday.
