“San Juan Islands Museum of Art is delighted to announce the appointment of Peter Lane to the position of Director of Operations, as we transition from an all-volunteer staff,” said co-presidents of the Board, Karen Woldvedt and Diane Martindale.

Peter has been a volunteer at SJIMA for more than three years and a valued member of the Exhibitions Committee, Steering Committee and the Board.

He brings a wealth of skills to the position as he has worked with domestic and international museums for nearly 20 years.  Lane has been a member of an organization working to standardize museum practices worldwide.  He most recently has been working with private art collectors in all aspects of collections management.

Peter will take on the responsibilities of operations, overseeing exhibition installations, managing security, technology interface and more for SJIMA.

Additionally, SJIMA has hired Ms. Wendy Smith and Ms. Lana Hickman to serve as reception staff.  “SJIMA considers this a big step forward and we encourage the volunteers who have served as receptionists to continue to serve in their favorite SJIMA activity.  There are many museum activities with which helping hands are appreciated,” said Board member RaVae Luckhart.

SJIMA is open Friday-Monday from 11-5. Admission is $10 or free to members and those 18 and under. Mondays are Pay As You Can Days. Current exhibitions are Nicola Wheston: STUFF-The Consumption, Lumi Verdugo: OF MY HANDS 1962-2018 and April Surgent: PORTRAIT OF AN OCEAN. Other museum activities include Art For Fun with Kristen Abramson and Fall Family Art Days with Lana Hickman. See www.sjima.org for details.
