Dear SJCT Community,

As of Governor Inslee’s announcement this afternoon, Washington State schools will be closed March 17-April 24. All performances and events at SJCT will also be cancelled during this time as we do our part to help contain the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition to the performances already cancelled on our website, the following events are cancelled:

March 31—HD performance of The National Theatre’s Small Island
April 5—HD performance of The Bolshoi Ballet’s Swan Lake
April 7—The 2020-2021 Season Announcement Party
April 11—CATS Elegant Edibles Bake Sale
April 16-19—Spring Street International School’s production of She Kills Monsters
May 8-24—Mamma Mia! postponed pending rescheduling
July 9-12—All’s Fair New Playwrights work postponed pending rescheduling

It is with a heavy heart that we are also suspending rehearsals for Mamma Mia!, to protect our cast, crew, and production team. We have every intention of rescheduling as many cancelled performances as possible, and look forward to seeing all of you at the Theatre again when the public health crisis has passed. We will not have rescheduling information until the schools re-open, and we ask for your patience. There are numerous schedules to coordinate and consider, as your fellow islanders have carved out this specific time to prepare the show. If you see a Mamma Mia! cast or crew member, please give them your encouragement—this is a huge disappointment to so many of our Theatre family.

On a personal note, I wish each and every one of you the absolute best as we prepare for this period. I have been overwhelmed by the kindness of San Juan Island—by the desire of islanders to do great things. I have no doubt that as we step with trepidation into the unknown, this gem of the Pacific Northwest will weather the storm as we do everything else—together. SJCT will keep you informed as we are able regarding the rescheduling of events.

All the best,

Nathan Kessler-Jeffrey
