To Be Distributed for Children and Teens at FHES on Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13

Due to community closures and social distancing measures, the San Juan Island Library’s summer program will be a bit different for 2020. San Juan Island Library Youth Services will be offering Summer Reading Program take-home kits for our island children and teens. The kits are free to help support literacy and learning throughout the summer months while school is no longer in session.

Each kit contains fun goodies, stickers, listings of online summer programs, activity booklets, a guide to hiking San Juan public lands, a scavenger hunt, and a free book courtesy of a local donor through Griffin Bay Books. Teen kits will include a free book, a make your own T-shirt project and activities designed just for teens.

The take-home kits will be distributed these days and times through a drive-in service at Friday Harbor Elementary School, 95 Grover Street:

  • Friday, June 12 from 1-4 PM
  • Saturday, June 13 from 10 AM – 1 PM

San Juan Island Library Youth Services staff will wear masks and gloves and take safety precautions regarding Covid-19 transmission. People receiving kits are requested to stay in their vehicles once they drive up to the front of the elementary school. Library staff will hand the kits to you through your car window. If you have masks, please wear them.

Public libraries will begin opening for services in Phase 3 of the governor’s coronavirus re-opening plan. San Juan Island Library staff look forward to seeing you then. In the meantime, library staff want to make sure our island children have reading materials and reading incentives for the summer months.

The San Juan Island Libraries 2020 Summer Reading Program is proudly sponsored by the San Juan Island Library with funding from local donors and the Friends of the San Juan Island Library.
