Watch Emily Anton, from The Ballet and Movement School, on the San Juan Community Theatre’s website.

Emily Anton began her professional career at the Cornish Dance Theatre working with Steve Casteel and Olivier Wevers.

She went on to dance at the Oakland Ballet Company and Peninsula Ballet Theatre working with Michael Lowe, Jenna McClintock, Carlos Carvajal and Bruce Steivel. It was with these companies that she began to be cast in soloist roles.

When she moved to New York City she danced with Ballets with a Twist as a soloist and was honored to have a solo, Bloody Mary, created on her. With Ballets with a Twist, she had the opportunity to perform their signature show, Cocktail Hour all around the country and perform with Cyndi Lauper as well other celebrities in her “Home for the Holidays” shows at the Beacon Theatre.

In NYC, she also danced as the ballerina for The Ride and as a soloist with Dance at Saint Peters. She enjoyed guest artist roles around the country at Winston-Salem Festival Ballet, Stillpoint Ballet, Northern California Ballet, Northwest Ballet and Day-to-Day Dance.

Emily participated in various summer intensive dance programs including: the Royal Academy of Dance in Long Beach, California, California Ballet School’s Advanced Summer Workshop at the University of San Diego, Whitman College Summer Dance Lab in Walla Walla, Washington and the American Ballet Theatre’s Summer Intensive in NYC.

Emily taught liturgical dance to elementary school children and choreographed and presented dances at schools and churches she attended. She taught pre-ballet and beginning ballet beside her teacher, Sylvia Bolton. In NYC, Emily has taught Franklin Method classes at Naam Yoga and ballet classes through Dance to Unite that caters to children who wouldn’t otherwise have access to dance classes, teaching cultural diversity through dance. She worked for the School of Oregon Ballet Theatre Summer Intensive Dance Program and the State Street Ballet’s Summer Intensive in Santa Barbara and taught at the Northwest Ballet’s Summer Intensive in Bellingham, Washington as well as the Whidbey Island Dance Theatre in Langley, Washington.

Emily has spent six years developing her ability to help people connect to the infinite health inside of them, studying: the Franklin Method (embodiment, imagery and anatomy with published author, Eric Franklin); BodyTalk with Laura Hames Franklin and Karen Best; anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology at Empire State College (SUNY); a mentorship with Anne-Marie Duchêne of Art of Alignment (business, meditation and connection); and Hellerwork Structural Integration.

Anton is thrilled to have settled in Friday Harbor to mentor, dance and teach the art form of ballet and to be the artistic director of The Ballet and Movement School.
