A progress report from Friday Harbor Family Clinic

Heather Christensen sends along an update about the progress being made at the new Friday Harbor Family Clinic, scheduled to open in late April at 235 Blair Ave.

Things are progressing well with both the physical setting up of the office and the electronic administrative nuts and bolts needed to operate the clinic as a business. We continue to be delighted with the community response and support. We do not have a set start date yet as we are still waiting on various moving parts to all fit into place. We are estimating the start date after the middle of April. Please be patient and know that we will make announcements when we are able to start scheduling.

Here are a few things that are important to understand in anticipation of our opening:

  • Most but not all forms of insurance will initially be accepted. We will not be contracting with or taking payment from Tricare. Be assured that Medicare and the various forms of Medicaid as well as cash payment will be accepted.
  • Neither blood draws nor immunizations will be available on day one. However, these will still be available locally with referrals from us. The Department of Health will be working closely with us to facilitate that the Vaccine For Children program will be resumed.
  • Masks will still be required for clinical settings including our office. Please make sure you are wearing one when you enter our space. We do not anticipate this requirement to go away any time soon for medical clinics. Thank you for your cooperation with keeping everyone safe.
  • Although we have cared for many of you in the past, all seeking care from us are new patients. This means that there is no guarantee that everyone automatically will be accepted into the practice. It is at our discretion.

Again, establishing a full service medical office takes time so please be patient.

Thank you for your continued support!
