December 29, 2009 at 2:25 pm

In November, President Obama signed the bill that included $6 million dollars to purchase the Mitchell Hill property & add it on to the national park at English Camp (or British Camp – I gotta ask Mike Vouri which is right. Or Canadian Camp – maybe they want it back.) It’s a beautiful 320-acre gift  Continue Reading

Wildlife on the island…

December 28, 2009 at 6:48 pm

It was neat to see this wild turkey up near the dump…there used to be tons of wild turkeys here on the island fifteen years ago – you’d see them walking around in little mobs downtown, and out in the parks. Someone introduced fox to the island in the early 1990s, and that seems to  Continue Reading

December 28, 2009 at 10:07 am

It was cool to see that folks have left their holiday lights up this weekend…it’s kind of a island tradition to leave ’em up till March or they burn out, so take your time, since they cheer up the grey months ahead… More around the island: • Just because it was a little chilly, that  Continue Reading

It’s always good to have a song to wake up to – here’s Coldplay with Viva La Vida. It’s nice to dance first thing in the morning….

Orcas…in San Diego!

December 23, 2009 at 6:28 pm

As you may know, Ivan from Western Prince is operating in San Diego this winter as Jackie works on her grad degree there…he tells me he went out on the 21st to look for gray whales & fin whales & saw a minke….but then saw a pod of about 20 orcas, which is pretty unusual  Continue Reading

That radio station over on Lopez…

December 23, 2009 at 5:02 pm

First of all, you can hear the station at KLOI.org – they stream the shows so people on other islands can hear what they offer. Check out their programming schedule & it looks to me like you can hear a nice variety of music & programming, including Zach Milkus and Laura Greenan from our island.  Continue Reading
