The San Juan Island Trails Committee celebrated the opening of its second long-distance trail on the island Saturday morning at the trailhead across from the baseball field on Spring Street. Construction is about to begin to replace the 1886 earthen dam at Briggs Lake on Roche Harbor Highlands, and during the six-month construction period the trails (really, logging roads) on the north side of the lake will be closed to recreational use.
