Into the sunset

Posted January 7, 2023 at 5:40 pm by

I’m writing to let everyone know that today will be the last day in publication for the San Juan Update. I’ve enjoyed running the Update over the last year, but other work and family demands have increased dramatically in recent months, and those demands require more of my attention in 2023 and beyond.

Thank you for your long-standing support of the San Juan Update, and for helping make the Update one of the great things about living in this community.

  11. It is a loss to our community because the Update filled a particular niche between the SJ Islander and the Journal that neither of them provides us. One of my first morning visits every day was to the Update and it’s on the bookmark bar of my browser. I’ve followed it from the inception and thought yours to be the best iteration of all. The perfect home for Freezer Burned! My FaceBook feed is the poorer for loss of your images and stories. Perhaps some day there can be an occasional “Update” column in the SJ Islander or Journal so your special gifts still get to shine. Best wishes for you and your family and future.

  12. SJI without the “Update”? I am really sorry to read that this is the last entry. “Update” was, as others have said, an integral, important aspect to my morning reading. I wish you well on the new paths that you have chosen and will choose. Many thanks for all that you have brought to our community.

  13. thank you for stepping up when Tim left, and he carried on what Ian created; It is time intensive, and sooo valuable, but life is full! Your photography is fantastic and hopefully will show up elsewhere>? And hopefully something will fill this very important place where the human aspect of life is reflected, and all the important things we all share. Blessings

  14. The Update is (was) indeed the “perfect home for Freezer Burned”. Thank you Jeff!
Onward and upward. Despite rumors to the contrary Archie is not dead!

  17. Like all the previous comments. You were my nearly-every-day visit for the good news without commentary. Just the facts and that will be missed.

  20. Wow – San Juan Update has been my go-to site since 2008 when I decided to move to San Juan Island. I appreciate all the hard work that went into this effort, from Ian to Tim to you, and just know that your work was a boon to the community, allowed more communication about the good news, the local organizations, what is going on, etc. We really need a radio station here, but San Juan Update filled that role in a wholesome, beautiful way. Good wishes on your future endeavors. San Juan Update will certainly be missed.

  21. Sad to learn about the end of The Update. It’s been a part of my day for so many years. Thank you for giving it a go as far as carrying on something that spoke of the very fabric of our island days and life. All the Best!

  24. Why not approach the School District- perhaps the high school creative writers and photographers could take over the Update.

  25. We Will greatly miss seeing the on line spin on life here in the islands. The law of upkeep costs and time versus utility gain has taken its toll on another long time standing source of great information. We will miss you San Juan Update. Wishing you and yours great things! THANK YOU for great service
    !
