Willy Dunn makes state in wrestling…

For Friday Harbor High junior wrestler Willy Dunn, it began with a trip to state as an alternate as a freshman. I was just checking the San Juan Public Schools Foundation website and couldn’t help but note that the Phone-a-thon raised $26,215 this past October, while the Business Promotion added $15,827. Last night it looked pretty promising: The Wolverine boys were ahead of a tough Lynden Christian team by one at the half, and by six early in the third, but the Lyncs roared back to win 61-47 to win their district playoff game and move on to district play. The Friday Harbor Wolverines hosted their final regular season meet this past weekend at Hall Gym, and the results left Coach Neil MacDiarmid and assistants Travis Berwald and John Gossom optimistic heading into this weekend’s district tourney. When a school district has a strong administrator who is widely appreciated & popular with his staff & students, it comes as a surprise to hear he’s moving on. Our elementary school principal is resigning, and the response I’ve heard has been universal that he’s a great one & folks don’t want him to go. Continue Reading

Tomorrow night, FHHS grad Tyler Hart (’07) and the Eastern Washington Eagles play for the national football championship against the Delaware Blue Hens. It’s been a good weekend for Friday Harbor High, and former Friday Harbor High players… • Senior receiver Tyler Hart (FHHS ’07) helped lead the Eastern Washington Eagles into the national championship game with Friday’s nationally broadcast win in the semis over Villanova – the title game will be held in Texas on January 7th. It was a six week season every Saturday off island, including 6am practices in Turnbull gym. This is the second year in a row the team has won first place in their division. Way to Continue Reading
