One of the highlights of the school year (and a great way to end it) is the mock trials, put on by Jim McNairy’s government classes. Thursday afternoon the hard-luck soccer Wolverines pressured the goal throughout the game, but shot after shot later the boys came up with a 0-0 draw with Cavalero Mid-High School. The guys end the season with a win and two ties to go with eight losses, and the satisfaction of steady improvement through the season. They Continue Reading

I asked FHHS’s Purple & Gold why folks should come to this weekend’s fundraiser (here’s more on the San Juan Calendar), which hopes to raise $45K to keep sports happening until the November 7th vote reinstates the programs…Elisa Howard says it’s going to be a good time: It is our goal to raise $45,000 at Continue Reading
Kinda like Wrigley Field…
Written on April 26, 2009 at 3:19 am, by Ian Byington
In Chicago, they schedule Cubs games at Wrigley in the middle of the day for two reasons: One, that’s when baseball is supposed to be played, and two, then people can skip work & go watch ’em. Today, you can too – the Friday Harbor Wolverines baseball team plays at 2:45pm here against Orcas at Continue Reading

Thursday afternoon there was a power outage which darkened the electric scoreboard during the game, but Friday Harbor didn’t have a power outage as they rode a complete game effort by senior pitcher Albert Strasser (in photo) to a 14-4 win over a strong Nooksack Valley team. Dancing in the street….
Written on April 13, 2009 at 8:00 pm, by Ian Byington
Ever since I saw the end of Slumdog Millionaire, I’ve been wishing we could have everybody dance next to the ferry landing (since we don’t have a train station to dance in.) Great way to end a movie, or start things up on an island. In Antwerp, they have no such problem – check it Continue Reading
